Formula and methodology
Estimated charging hours = battery amp-hours ÷ charger amps × (1 + loss allowance ÷ 100).
Worked calculation example
A 150 Ah battery charged at 20 A has a base time of 7.5 hours. With a 20% allowance, the planning estimate becomes about nine hours.
What can affect the result?
State of charge
A partially discharged battery needs less energy than an empty-capacity assumption.
Current taper
Many chargers reduce current near full charge, extending the final stage.
Temperature control
Battery management may reduce current when cells are hot or cold.
Limits of this estimate
The calculator assumes a substantially discharged battery and average charger current; it cannot model charge curves, cell balancing or safety limits.
